Every now and then, everyone leaves a task to just sit in the corner of their mind for a few hours, days or even months. That is way too long and often the work that is left can be done in a fraction of the time that people generally leave it to be. Procrastination is a very common, almost-universal phenomenon.  

While you procrastinate, there is always a reminder in the back of your mind that you should be working, so you can’t fully relax. Not to mention that procrastination can make you feel like a failure and gradually transform your self-image into that of someone who is unable to complete tasks. As a result, your productivity suffers greatly, as does your earning and creative potential.

We’ve all heard of the procrastination phenomenon. When we procrastinate, we waste our free time and put off important tasks that we should be doing until it’s too late. And when it is too late, we panic and wish we had started sooner.

Break Your Work into Little Steps

Part of the reason we procrastinate is that we subconsciously believe the work is too difficult for us. Break it down into small pieces, then concentrate on one at a time. If you’re still procrastinating on the task after breaking it down, break it down even more. Soon, your task will be so simple that you’ll think to yourself, “gee, this is so simple, I might as well just do it now!”

Eliminate Distractions

Another tip for avoiding procrastination is to eliminate distractions. You’ll be more likely to complete your tasks if you limit the number of distractions around you. Another way to avoid procrastination is to hold yourself accountable for completing your assignments on time, studying for tests, and getting good grades. While it is easy to find excuses not to study and to take unnecessary or excessively long breaks, catch yourself before you do. Remember that you are accountable for the assignments you complete or do not complete, as well as the tests you pass, or don’t do so well on. The work that you get done or dont is entirely up to you and you’d  definitely be better reaping your rewards than sulking in a corner.  

Get a Grip and Just Do It

In the end, it all comes down to action. You can strategize, plan, and hypothesise all you want, but if you don’t take action, nothing will happen. Some people keep complaining about their situations, but at the end of the day, they refuse to take action. There has never been anyone who has succeeded by procrastinating, and it is doubtful that this will change in the near future. Whatever it is that you are lingering on procrastinating about, if you want to vetit done, get a grip on your life and go get it!
